Baptism of Fire 🔥?

Yes, it was a raw baptism of Fire at Genesys Tech Hub Learnable ’20 Induction which was my first Tech Induction experience. I will be telling you about it shortly and of course the fire part too 😅.

My Journey in Tech has been an amazing experience with a series of mind-blowing moments and encounters.

From having a diploma in Engineering to switching and graduating as a Computer Scientist to joining Andela Learning Community (ALC 2.0) as a learner and then being the Chief Facilitator for ALC 3.0 in Ebonyi State.

This Journey has been so amazing and has made me see the unlimited opportunities I have in the Tech industry. I took the time to share more about my journey in Tech in a previous story. Click here to read 🔥

How I knew about Genesys Tech Hub Learnable program

I came to know about Genesys Tech Hub through my brother in 2019, while he was serving in Enugu State. After he talked to me about the Hub and his experience when he visited, I fell in love with Genesys Tech Hub and fortunately it was during the application phase of learnable ‘19

I enrolled for Learnable ‘19 because I really wanted to learn from professionals and gain world-class knowledge as a developer and in turn, help many more gain the same knowledge while creating solutions to problems.

After my application and the interview series, I resolved that no matter what happens in this first application, I will try my very best to join the Genesys family.

The Interview was like an interview at Google HQ… 😅 . I was blown away with the interview series

Sadly, my school calendar didn’t favour my plan to join Learnable ‘19. I felt so bad but fortunately for me, we were the first set that experienced the Virtual Learnable Program. So, I couldn’t join others physically. There was no other option for me except to join the virtual program.

After the amazing experience with the Virtual Learnable ’19, I had the privilege of being among the 3 virtual interns that graduated with the physical interns.

During the Valedictory and Awards night Codename: Learnable ‘19

I resolved that I will come back and gain the physical internship experience so, I applied for Learnable ’20 immediately the application started.

Amazingly after the series of tests and interviews, I got the “You have made through” Mail. I was happy throughout that day and I knew this was another Life transforming opportunity for me.

My Learnable ’20 Acceptance Mail

Of course, I missed the induction during Learnable ‘19, because I was a virtual Intern. But this time I was going to experience it. I have heard the stories and this time I was going to tell the story after the 2 days Scheduled for the induction (2nd & 3rd July 2020).

First Day of The Induction

Sadly, Covid-19 made it a Virtual Induction but Genesys Tech Hub brought the Induction to our homes and made it the best experience ever. Let me tell you about the baptism of Fire 🔥.

9:45 AM, July, 2nd I was already sitting in front of my Laptop waiting to ‘smash’ the Zoom link and join the Induction. With my Notepad and Pen, I was happily smiling at my Laptop waiting to see the fine faces at Genesys Tech Hub. I was tensed and very calm at the same time.

10:01 Am, The Live session started. The first voice I heard was the voice of Eliezer Ajah one of the Learnable ‘20 coordinators. At that moment I knew the journey has begun. He welcomed everyone and I watched how other interns joined the Live session on Zoom.

I quickly swiped through the Zoom Participant View while Eliezer Ajah welcomed us and I saw different faces that I was going to work with for the next 6 months.

Shortly, Jerry Uke was invited to talk to us on “Everything about Learnable Program”. How it started and the goal Genesys Tech Hub set to achieve with the program. That was the beginning of the Baptism of Fire 🔥.

You Know Jesus told his disciples not to go anywhere until they receive the Holy Spirit. When the Holy Spirit came, He rested on the disciples Like tongues of fire. After that Peter could Preach and win over 3,000 souls in a single sermon.

The Induction, of course, was going to be a baptism of Fire and impartation of everything needed to get through the Learnable program.

Jerry Uke began to reveal the goal of the Learnable Program and how it stands to correct the flop in the educational system. He also took the time to reveal the Journey of Genesys Tech Hub from 2016.

One of the many things that ignited a reality of the progressive work at Genesys Tech Hub was when he detailed the progressive achievement, improvement, and innovations from learnable 2016 to Learnable 2020 and other amazing innovations like the Scuudu, Dev Studio, Genesys Ignite, Agora.

His words made me know I was in for a big thing in the Genesys Tech Hub Family 😊. I began to have a clearer picture of the amazing, innovative, and great minds at Genesys Tech Hub.

After His amazing session, Joshua Nwankwo and Aborchi Blessing who were part of learnable’ 19 came to share their experience. They both made everyone excited and super expectant of what is ahead.

Their experience gave us a clear clue and headway on the internship. While they were speaking, I felt the vibes and I could connect with their experience with respect to the few times I had visited Genesys Tech Hub.

They unlocked the reality of the culture in Genesys Tech Hub and how well the system was structured to ensure learning was achieved for anyone with any level of knowledge, background, and character.

The last session for Day 1 of the Induction was massive. It was a combo of Jerry Uke, Eliezer Ajah, and Nnenna. A detailed explanation was done for the learnable Guide and Nnenna mentioned how Genesys Tech Hub appreciates feedbacks and why we should give feedbacks.

The picture of the culture that was painted during the two hours of the day 1 Induction was something amazing and I was so ready to marry.

This was the first immersion into the pool of fire for baptism and it was a memorable one and I was so excited that the journey has begun 😊.

Second Day of The Induction

The Next day, 3rd July which was the second day of the induction, by 9:34 AM I was already stirring at the Zoom interface saying… “Wait for the Host to Start Meeting.”

Amazingly, it was Jerry Uke again welcoming us to the second day. We were about 132 participants. We started with a video. The Video was a BOMB! A massive bomb and here are 9 strong points I learnt from that video. 🔥

  1. You don’t need to have a dream to get started
  2. Don’t seek happiness: (Happiness is Like an Orgasm)
  3. It’s all Luck — It not because you’re the best that got you where you’re
  4. Exercise-The Body needs to be at it’s best
  5. Be Hard on your Opinion
  6. Be a Teacher
  7. Define yourself by what you Love
  8. Respect people with less power than you
  9. Don’t Rush

I was already caught up with the fire to move through the internship and beyond. Afterwards, Nwangwu Ositadinma was introduced to talk to us.

Nwangwu Ositadinma — Learnable ’20 induction day 2

He started with another amazing video that revealed the difference between a Fixed Mindset and a Growth Mindset. When He appeared on the screen I was already expectant to receive another measure of Wisdom from him. Meanwhile, Jerry Uke has already given us a clue about him.

All I can say from the little I heard him say is that he is a man with the wisdom of the ancient, present, and future😊.

During his session, he dished out massive insight about a Fixed Mindset and how we can recreate ourselves to have a Growth Mindset.

In his words He said:

A growth Mindset likes to:

1.Discover things
2. Apply
3. Accept Feedback.

He dropped something massive about meta-knowledge ( Having knowledge about a preselected knowledge). This was indeed a massive insight for me and I was already catching the Fire…😊

…Of course, each session had a Q and A session.

Guess who took the next session?

David Mong the Design Lead came up and dropped massive wisdom with key instructions that will guide us through the internship period. One of the things that caught me was how he used design concepts to explain and unleash wisdom 😊.

Interns who are in the Product Design track were excited from the comments in the chat section because previous speakers had used programming concepts and illustrations to explain and teach but this time we had the design vibes coming strongly.

How will I forget this part? Before David Mong came up, we watched another amazing video with another fire pack 😊.

Here are key points that caught up in my bones…

We live in the age of customization, not in the age of standardization.

The circle of Customization involves:

1. Designing your personal education, because the education system is outdated.
2. Find your Tribe
3. Deep Immersion

And lastly, Eliezer Ajah and Jerry Uke came back to give us the final words and officially welcomed us as part of the family of Genesys Tech Hub. Therefore, I can now boldly say #WeAreGenesys 😊.

Ezra and Jerry — Learnable ’20 induction day 2

We were quickly given our First Task: Guess the First the Task?

I will tell you on my Twitter handle, just follow me @mbajoshuac

The experience was amazing and I enjoyed every bit of it, except for the few seconds my network tripped off. (of course “we” have a playback for us) I am now in the “we “ 😍🥰.

Just as Peter was able to preach and in once sermon recorded 3,000 new converts, I have received the baptism of fire and I am turbo-boosted already for this Internship with enough capacity to deliver positive results.

Enjoyed it? Drop a Word in the comment section for me and also a Clap offering 😊.
